Impact of the Middle East War on Haiti

Military tensions in the Middle East have significant effects on the global economy and can be transmitted to international markets in the form of higher energy prices, increased shipping costs, and higher prices for imported goods. For economies heavily dependent on imports, such as Haiti's, these fluctuations represent a significant macroeconomic risk. Aware of the multiple impacts that such conflicts can have, the West Haiti Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIO) is examining the potential consequences of the Middle East war on the Haitian economy.

Network of "real-fake" passports, 10 arrests at the DIE

On Monday, March 23, agents from the Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI), the Vehicle Theft Suppression Brigade (BLVV), and the Criminal Affairs Bureau (BAC), acting on a warrant issued by the Port-au-Prince Prosecutor's Office, conducted a joint operation at the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) following an undercover operation. They made 10 targeted arrests, including the Director General and the Coordinator. A Justice of the Peace sealed the passport production office. The suspects were taken to the Port-au-Prince Prosecutor's Office for questioning and then handed over to the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ), which is responsible for conducting a more thorough investigation to establish all the alleged facts. These individuals are suspected of involvement in a network issuing counterfeit passports, pending the official release of the charges against them. To be continued…
