FLASH : Chadian military engineers have arrived in Haiti

On Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé chaired an expanded meeting of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN), bringing together the highest security authorities of the State, to intensify the response against armed groups.

The Prime Minister announced the arrival in Haiti early Wednesday morning of South African Jack Christofides, Special Representative of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), a multinational mission deployed at Haiti's request and authorized by the United Nations Security Council under resolution 2793 (2025) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45891-haiti-flash-the-security-council-has-voted-for-the-new-gang-repression-force.html . He was accompanied by a pre-deployment team of about fifty military engineering specialists, who came to prepare the facilities and infrastructure necessary for the arrival of the Chadian forces, which will eventually number 1,500 troops. The first contingent, composed of approximately 350 troops, is expected to arrive soon and mark the beginning of the GSF's expanded deployment.

The GSF's mission is clear : to conduct targeted, intelligence-based offensive operations against armed gangs, secure critical infrastructure and major roads, and protect civilians, in full respect of human rights and the rule of law.

The GSFworks in close cooperation with the Haitian Government, the Haitian National Police (PNH), and the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H), and in consultation with BINUH, the UN Country Team, the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) and the Organization of American States (OAS). Between April and October 2026, 5,500 uniformed personnel will be deployed to Haiti from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
