Haiti - Politic : Positive Results of President Martelly in Guatemala

Saturday, January 14, 2012, the President Michel Martelly, attended the inauguration of new President of Guatemala, Mr. Otto Perez Molina. Besides the President Martelly, 8 other Heads of States and representatives of 98 international delegations attended the ceremony.

The Head of State had bilateral exchanges not only with the President Molina, but also with the Presidents Luis Felipe Caldéron of Mexico, Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua and Porfirio Lobo Sosa of Honduras.

The President Martelly has announced that the Mexican government will provide $5 million to Haiti to build several markets, including to the Gonaïves. In addition, the Mexican President, Felipe Calderon promised the conducting studies to identify the basic needs of the country in terms of infrastructure. The two Heads of State have focused their discussions on the development of a program of education and the agriculture as well as opportunities to promote green energy in Haiti. The President Calderón, has confirmed that Mrs. Margarita Zavala, the First Lady of Mexico, would come soon in Haiti to oversee a grant program to support 4,500 children.

Saturday early morning, the President Martelly met with President of Guatemala, with whom he spoke of the institution building and of the promotion of relations between the two countries, the coordination and the management of major natural hazards, the security and the maintenance of Peace.

With his counterpart of Honduras, , Porfirio Lobo, the President of Haiti has addressed the ongoing cooperation between the two countries, the problems of the region, such as security and especially the admission of Haiti as a full member of the Central American Integration System (SICA)

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and the President Martelly have discussed of the creation of a bilateral commission, which will be responsible to explore the possibilities of cooperation between the two countries. Mr. Ortega proposed a plan for the development of women and the youth development, in addition to announcing, that young Nicaraguans will come to Haiti to help build houses.

In addition, the Head of State has participated in a private dinner with the President of Spain, José María Aznar, in which the President Martelly discussed of key issues such as agriculture, fisheries, food and security.
