Regarding quarry operations in Haiti, the Ministry requests assistance from the PNH and the FAd'H

The West Departmental Directorate of the Ministry of the Environment (DDO-MdE), in collaboration with the Directorate of Environmental Inspection and Monitoring and with the support of a team of environmental officers, conducted an observation visit to Pèlerin Laboule and Boutillier, areas particularly affected by sand quarrying.

On site, the delegation observed the intensity of the extraction activities, often carried out outside of environmental standards. These practices contribute in particular to the destabilization of slopes, increased risk of landslides, accelerated soil erosion, degradation of the landscape, as well as nuisances for local residents and surrounding infrastructure.

Faced with this situation, David Cossy, the West Departmental Director of the Ministry of the Environment, advocated for a coordinated response from the State, requesting the involvement of judicial authorities, the Haitian National Police (PNH), the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H), and local communities to strengthen oversight mechanisms. He also appealed to the public to be vigilant and cooperate with the authorities, particularly by reporting illegal activities.

This intervention is part of the initiative launched by Valéry Fils-Aimé, the Minister of the Environment, aimed at strengthening the Ministry's actions in regulating and protecting natural resources, with measures currently being developed to better regulate quarrying and limit environmental degradation.
