Haiti - Politic : Laurent Lamothe receives the Ambassador of Dominican Republic Ruben Silié Valdez

Laurent Lamothe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, received in audience at the Chancellery Wednesday, January 18, 2012, the Ambassador of Dominican Republic accredited in Haiti, Mr. Ruben Silié Valdez, in the presence of the President of the Committee of Support to the State University of Haiti, of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Pierre Richard Casimir and his Chief of Staff Mr. Ady Jean Gardy.

The Foreign Minister Laurent Lamothe from the outset thanked once again the Dominican Republic for the financing and the construction of campus of the University Roi Henri 1er and welcomed the choice of name, adopted by both governments, for the University Library is dedicated to the memory of the former President Juan Emilio Bosch Gavino of Dominican Republic, the first democratically elected head of state after the fall of Trujillo in 1961.

The Minister Laurent Lamothe also noted that he is happy that the Auditorium of the University, is dedicated to the name of the famous Haitian Joseph Anténor Firmin, former Foreign Minister of the President Florvil Hypolite.

The Ambassador Ruben Silié Valdez explained for his part that he shares the position of President Leonel Fernández and of the President Michel Martelly who wish to strengthen exchanges between the two nations. The Ambassador of the Dominican Republic want to erase all the misinterpretations about a noble gesture of his country vis-à-vis Haiti, and wishes to change attitudes on both sides for a greater harmony between the two peoples.
