Did you know that J. Robert Oppenheimer was often called the "father of the atomic bomb" ?

J. Robert Oppenheimer was a brilliant theoretical physicist responsible for running the Los Alamos Laboratory during World War II. Under his leadership, the Manhattan Project succeeded in designing the first nuclear weapons in history.

After the first successful attempt in the New Mexico desert, he quoted a sacred Hindu text: "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds." This sentence illustrates the deep moral dilemma he faced following the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in Japan.

After the war, he became an influential advisor for international control of nuclear energy, opposing the development of the hydrogen bomb. This position caused him to be marginalized during the era of McCarthyism in the United States.

His journey symbolizes the immense ethical responsibility of scientists in the face of discoveries capable of radically changing or destroying human civilization.
