Haiti - Culture : The group «Jed Levy Quartet» and the Orchestre Septentrional of Haiti in Cap-Haitien 23/01/2012 09:03:13 If the orchestra is best known to make dance the Haitians in its tours on the national territory or in the diaspora, one can remember at the time of its founding in 1948, the jazz music, popular throughout the world, also influenced the Haitian music. It has inspired the size of the orchestra, similar to big band jazz with their lines of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and rhythm section. More recently invited to perform in various jazz festivals in the United States and Canada, in July 2010, the Orchestre Septentrional of Haiti included in its repertoire of new songs, issued from Haitian and foreign folk music, to which it has made arrangements jazzy : Yoyo, Les gens du Nord, Agaou, etc... It's this repertoire, that the Orchestra presented to the Poetry night of Festival River to River (NYC, July 2010), which will be played Wednesday, January 25, 2012 for the public of Cap Haitien. It should be noted that since 2008, the Orchestra Music Director is none other than Nikol Levy, pianist who combines to his classical training, an excellent knowledge of jazz and a long history of Haitian popular music, within Phase One, System Band or Sakad. It is also the Director of Govi, rasin-jazz group, consisting of a number of musicians of Septen, and the composer of the carnival song "La Capoise" appeared on the last CD of the Orchestra, "Pi Douvan" where we find the success "Li gen dwa". Jazz group "Jed Levy Quartet" consisting of four (4) American musicians who present concerts throughout the world for about ten years, makes its tour in Haiti as part of the sixth edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Port-au-Prince https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-4733-haiti-culture-6th-edition-of-the-international-jazz-festival-of-port-au-prince.html in order to promote jazz music in Haiti to increase mutual understanding between Haitian and American cultures, and encourage the cultural institutions and local tourism. A music workshop, for lovers of jazz, will also be held at the local of the French Alliance of Cap-Haitien, Tuesday, January 24, 2012, from 5:00 pm HL/ HaitiLibre
