Haiti - Social : Important meeting to the Primature on working conditions in the textile industry 24/01/2012 09:28:41 A delegation of the Labour Department of the Obama administration, led by Ms. Sandra Polaski, Deputy Secretary of State and Mr. Joël Danis of the State Department, have exchanged on the HOPE Act, which grants to the textile industry of Haiti greater flexibility in terms of regulation of origin for clothing items shipped to the United States. On the Haitian side, the government was represented, among others, by the Director of Cabinet of the Prime Minister, Dr. Rony Gilot and by Mr. Henri-Claude Müller-Poitvien, President of the Tripartite Commission for the implementation of the law Hope (CTMO-HOPE). This meeting was motivated by next hiring of thousands of employees in the new factories of the Industrial Park North (Caracol). Dr. Gilot, from the outset insisted that "the Prime Minister appreciates that the central theme of this meeting is devoted to the social aspects of work of employees that will be hired. It is important to consider the possibility and ways to make their work more human and therefore more acceptable." The objective is the success of this sector in Haiti [...] This partnership with the Haitian government will lead to great success. It's a positive message to share with all stakeholders, we will create a favorable environment for international buyers," stated the Deputy Secretary of State Sandra Polaski. This workshop is an important step in the establishment in Haiti of an international structure that can promote trade and employment. In accordance with the wishes of the President Martelly, the Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille had, in the statement of his general policy, included in its future strategies the opportunity and the necessity of building a new model of economic development. The Prime Minister put on the job to enable the country to share its wealth and the interest of preferential arrangements, as the HOPE Act will allow it, via the jobs created, to provide a better protection against all social vulnerabilities.
