The Decisive Role of Women in the National Economy

Pedrica Saint Jean, Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights (MCFDF), participated in the Regional Policy Dialogue on "Women, Productivity and Growth" organized in Panama City with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

This high-level meeting brought together 101 participants from 24 countries in the Americas and the Caribbean, including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, senior officials, experts, and technical partners, who came to share their experiences and identify innovative solutions to make women's economic participation a driver of productivity, innovation, and sustainable growth.

During the discussions, several strategic themes were addressed, including women's economic participation, public policies promoting their empowerment, the care economy, access to finance, digital transformation, innovation, and mechanisms for formalization and economic inclusion.

Speaking on behalf of Haiti, Minister Pedrica Saint Jean presented the realities of the Haitian context, highlighting the crucial role of women in the national economy despite the numerous challenges related to informality, insecurity, successive crises, and limited access to financial resources. She also shared the Haitian government's vision for strengthening women's human capital, developing women's entrepreneurship, and better integrating a gender perspective into national economic policies.

The second day of discussions allowed for further exploration of the financing of equality policies, successful regional experiences, inter-institutional coordination, investments in healthcare systems, and government commitments to inclusive growth. This session notably included the participation of the Vice President of Guatemala, as well as seven ministers representing Barbados, Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Suriname, and Haiti.

Through this participation, the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Women's Rights (MCFDF) reflects the Government's commitment to placing gender equality at the heart of development policies, by supporting initiatives that can strengthen productivity, reduce inequalities, and make women key players in Haiti's economic and social transformation.
