Haiti - Literature : Gary Victor recipient of «Casa de las Americas 2012»
The jury of the 53rd edition of the literary prize "Casa de las Americas" composed of Francis Combes (France), Arnold Antonin (Haiti) and Laura Ruiz (Cuba) has awarded the prize "Casa de las Americas 2012" in the category Caribbean literature in French or Creole, to the Haitian writer, Gary Victor for his novel "Le sang et la mer" published in fall 2010 to the Editions Vents d’ailleurs.

Born in Port au Prince in 1958, Gary Victor, has published seven collections of short stories and eight novels in which his characters look at Haitian society in a way as critical as disillusioned. Recipient in 2003 of the Prize of Livre insulaire of Ouessant for "À l'angle des rues parallèles", in 2004 the price of book RFO for "Je sais quand Dieu vient se promener dans mon jardin", and in 2008 Grand Caribbean Literary Award for "Les Cloches de la Brésilienne", ary Victor, played on almost all fronts : animator of writing workshops, translator, known in particular for his translation of "Little Prince" (Petit Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, university professor, columnist in the Le Nouvelliste and serials for Ticket Magazine.

In his novel "Le sang et la mer" (The Blood and the Sea) he author makes an uncompromising statement of what is Port-au-Prince, of the management of the country in general, of latent racism that exists in our society, all this wrapped of myths. "Le sang et la mer" is a beautiful novel, quite different, both by history, tenderness and the hope that cross it, of other books of Gary Victor. This award is well deserved.

Gary Victor will participate in Haiti to "Étonnants Voyageurs" from February 1 to 4. In the morning of February 2 he will be at College Dominique Savio, accompanied by Régis Debray, then to the Fokal in the afternoon where he will speak on the theme "Art and survival". On January 4, he will be at the French Institute to exchange on the theme "Journalism and Literature".
