Haiti - Sports : Planning of the work of the new lighting system at Sylvio Cator stadium
A delegation from the Texas-based "Techline", specializing in the design and installation of lighting systems, led by engineer Mike Helton, visited Haiti on Wednesday and Thursday, February 16, in order to plan the resumption and completion of installation works of the new lighting system at the National Stadium Sylvio Cator. American technicians worked throughout the day of Wednesday on the plans and specifications of a plan of underground pipes where will now pass the electrical supply cables. In addition of representatives of the company, were also present, the Engineer Frederic Mangones, supervisor for FIFA and electrical engineer Peter Carriere who assists the American company in the field.

The construction work of tunnels will begin in one week. Once completed, the cables will be installed. All work will last about three weeks and will be completed in time for the opening of the sports season.

The previous lighting system dated from 1973 and no longer met the international standards required by 2014 to play at night, lighting power of 1200 lux for international matches of club or national team and also allow TV broadcasts in HD. hus, Haiti will be able to host matches of the "Champions League" of CONCACAF, which had not been possible until now.

This new lighting system is part of the renovation work at the National Stadium seriously damaged on January 12, 2010. The modernization consisted in the installation of artificial turf of last generation (USD$700,000), the repair of locker of teams, modernization and development of branch offices for FHF (USD$300,000) the, installation of the lighting system for the matches at night (USD$700,000) the whole was funded by FIFA. The painting of bleachers, of tribunes interior, and of the referees' locker room, was funded by the phone company Digicel at a cost of USD$100.000.

It will only remain complete the construction of a shelter for emergency generators, paving the pit of artificial turf and repair of the water tank.
