Haiti - Health : Inauguration of National Ambulance Center (CAN) 08/03/2012 08:24:50 The ceremony took place in presence of the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Florence D. Guillaume, of ecretary of State for Population, Dr. Carl Murat Cantave, arliamentarians, members of the diplomatic and of development agencies and staff of the CAN, ambulanceman, paramedics, stretcher bearers. The National Ambulance Center follows the tripartite agreement that was signed May 27, 2010 at the National Palace, between the governments of Haiti, Brazil and Cuba, around a health cooperation which included 5 components: strengthening of epidemiological surveillance, support to vaccination, the construction of 3 hospitals of reference and of one rehabilitation center and the establishment of the national ambulance Center (CAN). CAN reporting directly to the Office of the Minister of Health comes in strengthening to the national system of ambulance and will mmediately cover the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince and the Artibonite Department, before covering the entire country. The CAN has 30 well-equipped ambulances with oxygen, defibrillators and other emergency kits. This center comes, timely, power the efforts of the government to meet the demands of the Haitian population in health. Its autonomy and self-sufficiency are the main wish of the Minister for Health and Population, Dr. Florence D. William. The First Lady of the Republic, Sophia Martelly, has, meanwhile, applauded this public/private partnership as well as cooperation that this cooperation implementing an institution that, by joining Aba Grangou, answers, according to her to to its preoccupations and its desire to see exist in Haiti, a network of interventions in health and during natural disasters. The First Lady, after a head-to-head with some members of aid agencies, whose the Brazilian delegation, principal donor of the project, took the opportunity to visit the premises of the CAN, ambulance staff and the call center of emergency 116 available free of charge for the local population.
