Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly proves that he is not a U.S. citizen
This Thursday, the President Michel Martelly accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to Haiti Kenneth Merten and Bishop Pierre-André Dumas, representative of the Catholic Church within the platform "Religions for Peace" which brings together leaders from several denominations presented to the press, his travel documents, including eight passports, which clearly prove that it is not a U.S. citizen.

"President Michel Martelly : [...] During the week, I met all the moral and spiritual authorities of the country, who are united under the name 'Religion for Peace'. They asked me to make a gesture for the country, for the rumors ends, so that everyone can live the heart quiet and so I can continue to do the job that the people gave me [...]

It is for these reasons that religious authorities have asked me that I give all my travel documents, well, I agreed to give them today. I still think, that when I make this gesture, in transparency, before the Haitian people, the only leader I have, and before the whole world, I will once again prove my good faith. I will prove once again that the President Michel Joseph Martelly, does not lie, that he's a Haitian native natal 'Tet Kalé'.

[...] That the Grand Master bless Haiti and all its leaders without exceptions. That it gives them the wisdom and serenity. That it opens their eyes so they can be able to make plans for excellence and love it has for the country of Haiti. I salute them, I told them thank you, I greet all the guests, all members of the press who are present, we thank you very much and I also appeal for calm because the country needs people who work [...]

Before handing my documents [...] I invite the U.S. ambassador so that he make a statement on the nationality of the President of the Republic Michel Joseph Martelly, Mr. Ambassador you have the micro to tell if you have any information on the possibility that I am American."

U.S. Ambassador to Haiti Kenneth Merten : "Thank you very much Mr. President, as everyone knows, the U.S. law on this subject is very strict, I do not have the right to discuss an issue of anyone, a president or a friend without permission of the person concerned. With the permission that the President has just given me I can inform you that the President Martelly is not an American, is a Haitian [applause] I can also add that I was with him and the First Lady when he gave his residence card, when he handed it to the Consulate and we gave him a Visa, Anyway Thank you very much."

Président Michel Martelly : "Thank you Mr. Ambassador and as I know you have a wife who is a collector, I'll take in the lot of passport I have, one of the passport with which I traveled 21 November 2007, since there is a senator who has said that November 21, 2007 he had traveled with me and that I had a U.S. passport, we will show the passport, the seals November 21, 2007... and see the seal on the Haitian passport of Michel Joseph Martelly [applause]."

Bishop Pierre-André Dumas: "In the name of 'Religion for Peace' we receive them [the travel documents] and as we are religious leaders we hope to serve as a facilitator to help our country back to the path of peace, stability and above all to be able to work together for the integral human development of our country. Thank you Mr. President, thank you."
