Haiti - Social : Positive year for Sophia Martelly
After her first year [14 May 2011 - May 14, 2012], as First Lady of the Republic of Haiti, Sophia Martelly, remains convinced that the human person is the first resource of our country, confident that our country can now become the land where everyone can thrive, enjoy their full potential in a suitable environment created by a harmonious and caring society. A busy year for Sophia Martelly, where his commitment has been expressed in everyday relentlessly on all fronts in the country and internationally.

First, its support of senior citizens and children remains paramount. The activities of his caravan of end of year, accompanying the government's initiative "Solidarity Christmas" confirms this. During this period, she strongly supported the cause of the elderly as well as that of young disadvantaged children of Haiti for which she continues to advocate to the authorities concerned to take better care of these people. She went through the country, in asylums (Asylum St Vincent de Paul, Léogane), institutions of rehabilitation and supervision (La Famille School Community, Fonds-des-Nègres), to inquire the situation of the most vulnerable.

Its interventions in the areas of health, her contribution to the rehabilitation of the Sanatorium, her new responsibilities as head of the Multisectoral Coordination Committee (JCC-Haiti) interpellating her to lead delegations of this body responsible to work on major projects against HIV, TB and Malaria, to the Global Fund and other partners and public authorities.

In the fight against hunger and malnutrition in Haiti through the program "Aba grangou" which she is the ambassador, in its struggle for women's empowerment, through its fundamental support to the National Forum on the issue of women Haitian, 6, 7 and 8 March 2012; at the First regional Conference of women of the Far North, 15, 16 and 17 March 2012, opening a dialogue on the conditions of Haitian women; their rights, their role, responsibilities and their contribution to the development of the region.

And finally her involvement in the struggle to improve conditions of detention of women and girls in prisons. She also encouraged the Office for the Coordination of Women's Affairs of the PNH in its mission to support gender issues, of mentoring of police officers against discrimination based on gender within the police institution.

Sophia Martelly deserves a nod and can be proud of the work accomplished for this first year as First Lady of Haiti. A positive year a thousand times thank you.
