Haiti - Economy : A very low ranking...

According to a study of the "Basel Institute on Governance" (2012) of Basel, Switzerland, Haiti ranks fourth worst country (with a score of 8.16) among 144 countries surveyed, where the risk of illegal money transfer is the highest, with that sad score, Haiti became the Nation considered the worst of America. The worst being Iran (8.57), followed by Kenya (8.49) and Cambodia (8.46). The country ranked first (with the least risk) is Norway with a score of 2.36.

The scores obtained by each country were calculated using 15 indicators. Compliance with standards and the transparency in the financial system as well as political risks are also included in this indicator.

Haiti, which is found in noncompliance with the majority of the FATF standards, was able to obtain a postponement until June of this year for a number of corrective measures are implemented. Haiti will be considered as a non-cooperative country, which would have serious consequences on the functioning of Haitian banking system (increased monitoring of transactions from Haiti, increase of transaction costs, risk of suspension of bank relationships of correspondence, and inscription on the red list of countries that do not fight terrorism...)
