The Consul General of Haiti in Miami, Francois Guillaume II, accompanied by members of the Consular Corps, visited the Krome Detention Center where s incarcerated 26 of our countrymen. The delegation of the Consulate spoke for over an hour with the young [16] and less young incarcerated [12] for various reasons. Mr. Guillaume received the complaints of each, and promised to accompany them to the limit of its capabilities, so that the right of everyone is respected.

Asked about the living conditions of the detainees, Mr. Guillaume said he was very moved by the difficult conditions under which they live. In addition, the Consul General hoped that a reintegration program be put in place for these detainees who, for the most part, will go to Haiti shortly, so that they can also contribute to the advancement of the Haitian society.

Friday, June 8:

The Consul General of Haiti in Miami, met with his Dominican counterpart, Mr. Manuel F. Almanzar. In a friendly atmosphere, the two leaders, accompanied by executives of their respective Consulates, spoke for an hour on the general situation of diplomatic relations between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

This first meeting between the two diplomats, was the occasion to emphasize on the importance of a close cooperation between the Republic of Haiti and the Dominican Republic in order to develop together, new economic and diplomatic strategies. Recalling, that the Republic of Haiti is the third largest trading partner of the Dominican Republic "Further strengthen the business diplomacy included in the General Policy advocated by the Chancellor Laurent Lamothe, would allow economic development much more reliable and durable for Haiti and the Dominican Republic," explained François Guillaume II.

The two men also agreed to organize other similar events to continue to strengthen the diplomatic and economic ties for the benefit of both peoples of the island.
