Learn more about the Shotokan style:
Shomen Gichin Funakoshi is considered as the Father of modern karate. It is the importer of karate-dô in Japan and founder of the Shōtōkan style, he made evolve the initial form of Okinawan karate. Originally Funakoshi practiced the two schools that dominated (shorei-ryū and shorin-ryū) before developing a new form of karaté-dō, a simpler model, combining the ideals of shorei-ryū and of shorin-ryū.
