Haiti - Security : Meeting of CSPN on the improvement of the national security 14/06/2012 08:51:00
The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, presided, earlier this week in the offices of the Primature, a meeting of the Supreme Council of the National Police (CSPN) during which important issues were discussed in order to improve the general security situation in the country. At this meeting were invited Mr. Rudolph Joazil, Minister of National Defense, Ms. Marie Carmelle Jean-Marie, Minister of Economy and Finance, former Senator Youri Latortue, Adviser to the President of the Republic, Reginald Delva, Secretary of State for Public security and Leon Charles, Head of Office of Coordination of CSPN. The Chief of Government announced several projects at the benefit of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) whose the order of new firearms, the rehabilitation and the construction of infrastructure for the Corps of Intervention and Maintenance of Order (CIMO) and the camp of Lamentin, the acquisition of equipment for the maintenance of order, of water trucks and other heavy equipment. In parallel, the issue of demobilized soldiers was discussed. In this regard, the Prime Minister indicated, and this was confirmed by the Minister of Economy and Finance, that the funds to pay the second installment was already available on the account of the office in charge of the management of demobilized soldiers. For his part, the Senator Youri Latortue gave a presentation of a draft of communal police, supported by the Chief Inspector General of the National Police. The objective of this project is to improve the security climate throughout the country. Finally, other essential provisions have been addressed, notably it was agreed to establish a Rapid Intervention Force within the PNH, in order to close the city of Port-au-Prince, strengthen the fight against kidnappings, consider the establishment of a Directorate of Civil Protection extended and the amplification of the fight against smuggling.
