The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Laurent Lamothe, went to New York Friday, June 15, where he met with staff of the Consulate General of Haiti and that of the Mission of Haiti to the United Nations Organization (UN).

The Chancellor Lamothe, had a working meeting with Charles A. Forbin, the Consul General of Haiti in New York, to inquire personally on of conditions in which our officials work in these diplomatic representations, and provide new directives.

Taking advantage of his visit to New York, Laurent Lamothe met Robert De Niro, the famous American actor, who plans to visit Haiti in two weeks. The actor, who plans to make several exploratory visits targeted in the departments of North and South of the country, has expressed his intention to build a tourist hotel in Haiti.

On the other hand, the Head of Government, during a video conference, had an important working session with officials of the energy sector in Haiti during which he discussed of the development of a work plan that could lead to significant results in this sector. It was also agreed, of the holding of monthly meetings intended to verify the progress of identified projects, whose objective is to reach the total electrification of the country.

The visit to New York of the Prime Minister, is part of a tour in the United States, in Washington he has, among others, met with officials from the Inter American Development Bank.

Laurent Lamothe will be back in Haiti Monday, June 18, 2012.
