Haiti - CEP : Communication problem between the Presidents of both Houses ? 05/07/2012 10:39:35
The Deputy Levaillant Louis Jeune, President of the Lower House, concerning the appointment of 3 members that must represent the legislative power in the new Permanent Electoral Council (CEP), had declared before installation of members of the Supreme Council of Judicial Power (CSPJ) "In the agreement that was found between the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, it was agreed that the Senate will designate a person [by a majority vote of two thirds of the senators] and the Chamber of Deputies, will designate two people [by a majority vote of two thirds of members]" Yesterday, the Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras, President of the Senate denied this statement "I am not yet aware of this selection process [...] I am not aware of any consensus on the choice of members of CEP [...] I gave an interview last week and I said that we should define a set of criteria and see the opportunities of all persons who are qualified to fulfill this role. That was what we wished [...]. I think that a concertation must be made, of consultations between the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic, so we got to the process before returning to National Assembly to make such a choice..." Hope that the Presidents of both Houses agree quickly on the issue, if they want that the Legislative power speaks with one voice and can put in place quickly, a process of constructive concertation...
