Haiti - Education : Vocational training, signing of a Memorandum of Agreement
Following the wishes of the Government, to place employment at the heart of the reconstruction process, the National Institute of Vocational Training (INFP) [which operates under the Ministry of Education], the Office of the Secretary State for Vocational Training (BSEFP), and the International Labour Office (ILO), this week signed a Memorandum of Agreement for one year (renewable) that will allow to institutionalize cooperation between these institutions in order to establish a national campaign of vocational training in order to generate real growth in Haiti.

"This agreement is essential, if at the government level we are talking about jobs [...] we must have a skilled labor [...] to have this labor required, it is mandatory to go through vocational training [...] Only a skilled workforce, will create the conditions necessary for a strong, sustainable and balanced growth in Haiti," declared Ms. Marina Gourgue, Secretary of State for Vocational Training.

For his part, Antonio Cruciani, Coordinator of the ILO in Haiti emphasized on the continued commitment of his office to support and assist state institutions of Haiti and expressed appreciation for the strengthening of the collaboration with the INFP, which will allow according to him to contribute to the development and consolidation of a skilled workforce, promoting access to the labor market in Haiti.

The agreement between the INFP and the ILO is structured around three main objectives : revision of curricula and training curricula ; adaptation of vocational training to priority growth sectors of the market and to the activities beneficiaries of the revival of economic growth [in addition to the construction industry, these training also cover the trades of the telecommunication, refrigeration and computer] ; integration into technical training programs of learning modules on the creation and Business Management.
