Haiti - Politic : Working lunch between the President of the Republic and Prime Minister

Monday at the National Palace, the President Michel Martelly and the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, had a working lunch around several topics of national interest. Dieuseul Simon Desras, resident of the Senate and Levaillant Louis-Jeune, President of the Lower House, participated in some discussions.

The Head of State and Head of Government have addressed, among others, issues related to energy and credit. Two fundamental points, on which strongly emphasized the President Martelly, determined to take concrete action to raise the quality of life of the Haitian people "Today, the new debate initiated consists to provide solutions to address the issue of energy and allow Haitians to have access to credit," declared the President of the Republic.

Access to electricity will be at the agenda at the next Council of Ministers during which major provisions should be announced in the public interest "I realize that there is a dark who scares in streets. Electrical power is not completely available, while the government subsidizes this sector to the tune of $200 million per year. You should know what is done with that money," declared the Head of State who has already passed instructions to the Prime Minister to arrange a meeting with relevant stakeholders, with the objective of finding a lasting solution to this problem.

The energy issue is a priority for the Administration Martelly-Lamothe. 11.2 million dollars have already been injected under the Energy Policy and the Prime Minister has indicated that 7.000 solar streetlights have been installed in communal sections throughout the country.

Besides the energetic problem, the lack of access to credit is a major obstacle on which the President Martelly wants to deal. The Head of State announced that he will soon inform the commercial banks of its credit policy, which is a social vision, focused on the improvement of living conditions of the poorest people. He advocates a public-private partnership to enable the middle class to have access to credit truly"Every citizen should have access to credit, this should not only concern a small group of people," stressed the Head of State, urging commercial banks to collaborate.
