Haiti - FLASH : The Ministry of Communication confirms the creation of CEP

The Ministry of Communication informs that the democratic process of establishment of the Permanent Electoral Council is continuing in accordance with the wishes of the Constitution and the expectations of Haiti's population and confirms that the Superior Council of Judicial Power (CSPJ) formally submitted 3 names for the Permanent Electoral Council : Yves Benoit Jean Marie, Patrick Metellus and Salnave Exantus and the Executive for its part, has chosen three names : Josué Pierre Louis, Gustave Acacia and Raynaldo Brunet.

A presidential order confirms this initial list of 6 names, which falls within the framework of strengthening of the rule of law in Haiti and demonstrates the will of the Haitian State to acquire sustainable and democratic institutions under the Constitution.

The President Michel Martelly and the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, during the Council of Ministers of 15 August 2012, have emphasized on the determination of the Haitian Government to hold free elections, democratic and transparent with an strict timetable established by the Permanent Electoral Council.

According to the Minister Ady Jean Gardy, this is the first time since 1987 that a democratically elected government shows itself decided to establish in appropriate conditions the Permanent Electoral Council which is the guarantee of the democracy at the service of the people of Haiti.
