Ms. Andress Appolon, the new Director General of the Electricity of Haiti (Electricité d'Haïti - EDH), the first woman in history to lead this institution, during the installation ceremony in its new duties, last Thursday, has declared :

"[...] My accession to this position, is a historic moment. The EDH, for the first time, will be headed by a woman.

So, I must thank the President of the Republic, His Excellency Michel Joseph Martellyto have designated me as Director General of the EDH and of having placed his trust in me. This great mark of confidence, leads me to reflect on the importance of such an institution for the development of our country, at a time when the Government seeks to meet the needs of our citizens.

The challenges are many and the resources available to meet them much lower. Therefore, we will have to create new ways to solve them with a lot of imagination.

I want to bring to this task a singular determination, knowing that the challenges are huge and the field difficult. Professionalism, expertise, dynamism, goodwill, cooperation and energy will allow us to cope.

The task ahead does not belong only to the Director General, but also to the team that surrounds her, to assist her towards the achievement of targeted objectives and, for the strengthening of this vital institution for the welfare of the entire population of Haiti.

I rely on the support of all employees of the EDH to carry out this task.

It is in this spirit that I stand today at the service of the EDH and of Government, which gave me the job.

The President of the Republic and the Prime Minister will not be disappointed. I always wanted to serve my country. It is for me today the opportunity to do it.
