Haiti - News : ISAAC here and there + message of Wyclef

The National Meteorological Center (CNM) on Sunday launched a flood warnings all over the country because, according to a statement from the DPC "the risk of flooding, landslide landslide and collapse are still very high," urging people to exercise constant vigilance.

The DPC informs that the new balance of the passage of Isaac Haiti is of 19 loss of life, 6 missing, 22 injured, 15.812 evacuees, 14.672 people in 92 shelters, 951 homes flooded, 335 destroyed, 2.346 damaged and 3.632 families affected.

Multi-sectoral assessment teams are deployed in the field, especially in the west and south-east. Assessment multi-sectoral teams are deployed on the ground, particularly in the two departments most affected [the West and South-East]. Reconnaissance flights are organized by the Minsutah, crisscrossing the South, the North and the metropolitan area for a summary assessment of the damage. Haitian Red Cross is also conducting a assessment of needs for the response.

The agricultural sector remains so far the most affected across the country. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported heavy losses of livestock and at the level of banana plantations, according to the FAO, this situation weakens the Haitian agriculture already affected by drought. Fifty agents from the Ministry of Agriculture have been deployed in the affected areas to meet the needs of the sector and deliver if necessary seed stocks to 20,000 vulnerable households.

Wyclef Jean calls for continued help in Haiti "As we face this latest storm, I find myself asking an uncomfortable question : Where has Haiti been in the national and international news ? After the earthquake of 2010, the people of the world opened up their hearts, minds, and wallets and pledged help to Haiti... but lately there's been next to nothing... [...] This week, Haiti has returned once again to the national and international consciousness. This time, let's not forget [...] we [must] remain active and continue to bring attention to the causes we believe in [...] The hardest part is always rebuilding - and Haiti cannot effectively rebuild if she doesn't get the attention she deserves."

Pamela A. White, the new Ambassador of the United States in Port-au-Prince, visited Cité Soleil accompanied by the First Lady of Haiti, Sophia Martelly, in order to got a first-hand look at conditions there after the passage of Isaac.

The President of the Republic, Michel Martelly and Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe went to the School of the Republic of Peru in Martissant, which was transformed into a shelter for 95 families. They also distributed food kits in the neighborhood of Tapi Rouj and visited Cité Soleil.

Strongly affected by the passage of the storm, 165 IDP camps in five municipalities of the metropolitan area, as well as Petit Goâve and Léogâne (or just over 25% of existing camps) are the subject of food distributions and other by humanitarian partners.

Olivier Martelly was to Jacmel to inquire about the situation on the ground and talk to the displaced living in temporary shelters.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) currently distributes kits composed of two plastic sheets, a hygiene kit and a jerry to 6,000 displaced families of Port-au-Prince while they leave the temporary shelters to return in the camps.
