Haiti - Economy : Business Law Reform
The President Michel Martelly, has proceeded, Friday at the National Palace, to the installation of the Presidential Commission for the Reform of Business Law. This Commission, composed of Mr Bernard Gousse, Coordinator and two members Me Jean-Frédéric Sales, and Me Nathalie Alcindor, its s mission is to produce reflections on the reform of business law and to submit to the Head of State projects and legislative and regulatory standards.

"How to restore the Haitian citizenship without the creatioon of decent jobs, sustainable and well-paid, without possibility of expansion of the middle class ? How to reduce the country's vulnerability without intensification of productive investments that enhance the land and its resources, men, women and their talents ?," asked the Head of State who believes that the economic development of Haiti, at the time of the globalization and of the globalization of trade, can not be achieved without the participation of investors and foreign capital.

"We have, the oldest Commercial Code in the region. This Code published in 1826 has been the subject of only one amendment made in 1944. This means that it is completely unsuitable to the development needsof private investment and of business, it is also unrelated to the major scientific and technological revolutions that have marked recent decades," stressed the President Martelly.

While taking into account, in the course of its work, analysis and recommendations already produced on the updating of legal framework of business according to the new realities, the Presidential Commission for the Reform of Business Law will work to to the refoundation of the business legislation in Haiti, by developing a framework more conducive to the massive investment of capital both domestic and foreign.
