Haiti - Agriculture : The President Martelly in Artibonite
The President Michel Martelly, has proceeded at the inauguration of a water supply and of distribution of drinking water and an agricultural service center in the town of Verrettes during a tour in the Artibonite which also led him to Desdunes where he inaugurated a center of the same kind.

With the financial support of the Government of Spain estimated at $300,000, the system of supply and distribution of water coming from a water source and its distribution in approximately 4 kilometers of pipes. The work consisted in the replacement of 1.5 km of polyethylene pipes on the supply line ; on the replacement of PVC pipes in the city ; the construction of four water kiosks and that of a public fountain near the river.

Accompanied among others, of Jacques Rousseau, Minister of Public Works, Gérald Jean-Baptiste, Director General of the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA) and Jacques Thomas, Minister of Agriculture, the President Martelly, on behalf of the people of Haiti, thanked the Ambassador of Spain in Haiti, Mr. Manuel Hernández Ruigómez and the Venezuelan government through its Ambassador, Mr. Pedro Antonio Canino González, present at the ceremonies "The Haitian people wants to send of all his heart its congratulations to the Spanish and Venezuelan governments who do not haggle their aid when the Haitian people need it. I hope that this cooperation strengthens and gives much more results in favor of the Haitian people," welcomed the Head of State.

Ambassadors of Spain and Venezuela have pledged to continue to support the Administration Martelly-Lamothe in order to provide to the Haitian people a better life. Mr. Manuel Ruigómez Hernández promised to help in the repair of potable water systems and the institutional reform, while Mr. Pedro Antonio Canino González, whose country is funding the construction project of rice mills, today announced the expansion of this project.

By December 2012, a dozen agricultural service centers will be installed in the Artibonite and twenty others in 2013. Each of these centers, whose the management is carried out by of associations of farmers, has three rice mills, a dozen tractors and many inputs.

Conducted by the Agency for the Development of the Artibonite Valley (ODVA), the project of installation of agricultural service centers in the Artibonite Valley is made possible through funding from the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) in the framework of the cooperation between Haiti and Venezuela, through the Petrocaribe agreement.



The inauguration of these agricultural structures, demonstrates the willingness and commitment of the Head of State to intensify rice production and truly revive the national production. "The increase in rice production will help to struggle against the imported rice," remains convinced the President Martelly which also announced with satisfaction, lower prices, on the sale of a bag of fertilizer, which passes now from 900 to 550 gourdes [originally sold 1.800 Gourdes] "We continue to work to change the lives of the Haitian people," reiterated the Head of State, determined to take concrete action in favor of the population "I always think to youand I have a surprise for you," added the President, who took the opportunity to announce that he will assist 200 mothers in the region, in the framework of the program "Ti manman cheri".
