Haiti - Security : Réginald Delva, launches a final warning to phone companies
This week at the 6th Council of the Government, Réginald Delva, the Secretary of State for Public Security has raised his voice and asked for the last time to the phone companies to follow the instructions of the government, as they were committed.

"...every day we hear, that people are attacked at the exit of banks [...] we told everyone, to avoid the bandits have resources in hand, and what are these means ? These are the cell phones. Today, we're tired of talking with cell phone company and tell them to put their house in order. We take advantage of this Government Council to launch once again, an appeal to the phone company and agents who sell phones.

In the last two cases of kidnapping, that we register, phones [of the kidnappers] were purchased the same day, in other words, these people have an ease, because they know that if they buy on the street, we will not ask them identity papers. There is no country where it is done like that, therefore, now, I believe that it is the last message that we are launching to the phone companies.

We will begin to take action against those who sell SIM cards in the street, we also talked with them and asked them to return the cards to the companies, and they will reimburse you, otherwise we will take drastic measures.

Mr. Prime Minister, I ask at the level of Conatel, to support this initiative. The problem is not only a police problem, it is a chain and, it is necessary that we stop to have weak chain links in the chain.

The weak link today, it is the phone companies that refuse for some reason or another, to follow the instructions they had promised to follow. It was agreed that a person who buys a SIM card, present an ID. If it is a Haitian, his passport, his driver's license or his national identification card. If it is a foreign, his passport abroad [...] we were agreed, we met them (all) in the presence of the Director of Conatel, but after their beautiful promises, the day after the disorder has continued...

Once again, the message is launched, I hope they will hear it, to protect the population [...]"
