![]() Haiti - Politic : Martelly met with Ban Ki Moon 27/09/2012 11:01:48
Michel Martelly insisted on the interest taken by his administration to strengthen the rule of law at the institutional level : publication of the Constitution of 1987 amended, appointment of missing judges at the Court of Cassation, implementation of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, beginning of the process of establishment of the Permanent Electoral Council, strengthening of the National Police of Haiti, submission to Parliament of two new codes for the protection of human rights (Code of Criminal Procedure and the Penal Code). The Head of State has requested to Mr Ban Ki Moon, the reduction of the forces of the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah) and a redefinition of its mandate which should be accentuated more on the development projects. This meeting was also an opportunity for the President Martelly, to address the issue of Cholera in the perspective of a plan for the eradication of the disease. The Universal Schooling Program Free and Compulsory, in line with the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals, was also at the heart of trade. Ban Ki-moon congratulated the President Martelly for his leadership in the promotion of reconstruction and stabilization efforts. He called on the President to continue working closely with his Special Representative in Haiti on the further consolidation of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti. They noted that this process should go hand-in-hand with the strengthening of the Haitian National Police.
