Haiti - Technology : Project of National Commission on the Reform of the Digital Television
During a meeting with leaders of Associations of Media, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe has announced that he envisaged the establishment of a National Commission on the Reform of Digital Television to allow Haiti to adapt to the changes during the next two years, with the transition to digital, and meet the deadline, set for 17 June 2015.

The Prime Minister intends to explore with the National Council of Telecommunications CONATEL the means for Haiti to move without delay to digital. A transition that will provide a better picture quality ; the reduction of the frequency spectrum through the use of more efficient modulation technology ; the reduction of operating costs for broadcast and transmission and also generate much more profit to the state.

The Prime Minister has promised to look with the CONATEL, on the possibility of developing a decree granting a special status to community radio and insisted on a integration plan of media of the diaspora, in order to seek the management of a better picture of Haiti abroad.

In addition, the Prime Minister Lamothe supported the idea of the Minister of Communication to provide health insurance to journalists on the basis of different insurance plans and other social privileges. The Secretary General of the Association of Haitian Journalists (AJH) wished for his part obtain a public utility recognition for the AJH, in the respect of the independence of the media guaranteed by the Constitution.

Sony Esteus, the Responsible of Community Radio, took the opportunity to thank Ady Jean Gardy, the Minister of Communication, for his support with the CONATEL, that gave back to these stations [which emitted unlicensed], all their equipment seized during of operations of inspection.
