![]() Haiti - Security : The Conatel working on a law on Cybersecurity 08/11/2012 08:55:16
Jean Marie Guillaume, the Director General of Conatel, explained that there was a close correlation between the technological penetration and cybercrime. With an Internet network of more than two billion users worldwide, electronic communication is a powerful vector in people's lives. "Nothing is impervious to electronic communication, it provides a global culture based on the technologies of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) [...]" and requested the collaboration of all stakeholders in the fight against cybercrime, noting that Conatel can not do this work alone and that each institution, of public and private sector must play its role. He recalled that his institution was already working with the support of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), on the drafting of a law on Cybersecurity. Mr. Frederic Bolduc, OAS Representative, welcomed the initiative of the Government of Haiti to have foster this space of dialogue and training on the topic of paramount importance. Affirming that the OAS was doing everything possible, to be complementary to the efforts of Member States, and insisted, on the need to strengthen institutions and the security interdependence of Member States "if we want to confront and minimize the effects of computer attacks effectively, we need policies, legislation and accurate response teams. The strengthening of Cybersecurity must be addressed in a manner comprehensive and transversal."
