![]() Haiti - Politic : The G7+ looking for a «New deal» with donor countries 14/11/2012 11:17:47
The G7+, that attracted nearly 50 personalities, Ministers and senior officials from the 17 member countries of the weakest countries [Afghanistan, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Liberia , Papua New Guinea, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Solomon Islands, South Sudan, East Timor and Togo] wishes to draw the attention of the international community, on the challenges they face and establish a "New Deal" with international donors. "This is the first time in history that fragile countries speak with one voice. Even if we have different languages, we have the same challenges to face together," declared Emelia Pires, who deplores the fact that too often "external assistance does not take into account the internal problems, making that there is no coordination between donors.." Abundant in the same direction, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe declared "The aid must not suffocate the national and local initiatives but free them. Assistance is not limited to duplicate the so-called good practices applied without taking into account the cultural and historical dimensions of our States, today undoubtedly fragile but not devoid of experience and expertise." Xanana Gusmao, Prime Minister of East Timor, has encouraged the international community to entrust the management of aid to countries in difficulties themselves "External assistance, can not be as ready to wear, because there are various weaknesses for each country. It is necessary to adjust the aid in the light of these realities." In her speech, Marie Carmelle Jean-Marie Minister of Economy and Finance of Haiti declared "I want to reaffirm with you all that the fragility of our states is not a malediction or a fatality. Its causes and remedies are not unknown. In Haiti, we well know the roots of our weaknesses, our civic duty and our responsibility of women and men at the head of the institutions of our country are to provide appropriate responses, to sustainably strengthen our collective resilience and get back on the path of development."
