Haiti - Humanitarian : Japan grants $6.5 million, for a food aid project
Japan has granted to Haiti 540 million yen (± 6.5 million) for the food aid project focused on the improvement of agricultural productivity, in accordance with an agreement signed Friday in Tokyo by the governments of both countries. This signature, will allow to increase agricultural productivity and improve food security, came after a meeting between President Martelly and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda.

The strengthening of the cooperation, is one of the most significant points of the visit of the Head of State in Japan. After his meeting with Yoshihiko Noda, the President Martelly thanked Japan for the development assistance and especially after January 12 when Tokyo sent $100 million in emergency aid.

"It is important for me to say that the support that Japan has sent to Haiti has reached the hands of the people [...] With the help, Haiti will rebuild," declared the President Martelly during a joint press conference, in which he also thanked the work in peacekeeping operations of Japanese contingent.

The Head of State of Haiti, had met the day before, with Hideaki Domichi, Vice-President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which confirmed this Friday, the interest of the Agency to continue the assistance work "Japan will continue to cooperate with Haiti in areas such as health, sanitation and education."

President Martelly and his wife Sophia were also received Friday in Tokyo by Japan's Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at the imperial residence.
