Haiti - Economy : Big Winners of Digicel Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 23/12/2012 11:37:12 The Haitian businessman Lionel Pressoir was named "Digicel Entrepreneur of the Year 2012" for his contribution to the revival of the tourism industry in Haiti. Before becoming interested to the tourism and to launch Lojistik SA, a company that offers customized vacation packages in Haiti, Mr. Pressoir implemented with success, two clothing companies, employing a total of 650 workers. Mr. Pressoir, who also created the Foundation Destination Haiti to assist companies and organizations working in Haiti, received the award of President Michel Martelly, accompanied by Denis O'Brien, Chairman of Digicel Group. The Head of State paid tribute to Mr. Pressoir that he describes as a "tireless entrepreneur with a love of business that equaled only his love for this country and its people [...] Our country has experienced difficult times, but business people like Lionel Pressoir, show us again and again, that a successful business reflects a thriving community. This is why, despite everything what we lived, Haiti is now open for business." Damian Blackburn, CEO of Digicel Haiti, said "Lionel Pressoir not only saw the potential of tourism in Haiti, but it has also opened of doors for others, inviting them to follow his entrepreneurial spirit. He sees opportunities and turn them instinctively achievements. And when these projects are materialized, they benefit everyone and become of new milestones on the path of reconstruction of the country. This is one of the reasons why we established these business rewards." The awards were given in six categories. Mr. Pressoir, in addition to winning the overall title of Entrepreneur of the Year, also won the award in the category Education, Tourism and Culture. The coveted award of the category of "Emerging Entrepreneurs" was won by Gabriel Coupaud of the Compagnie Haïtienne de Location, which began in the area of machine rental obtaining the right to represent the U.S. manufacturers of heavy equipment, John Deere, before begin to implement its own warehouses across the country. Stéphane Lerouge of Adonel Betonex SA : Award in the category Industry Kurt Jean Charles of Solutions SA : Award in the category of Services, Jovenel Dubois of Jedco SA : Award in the category Environment Aliette Nelson of Positivité : Award in the category Agribusiness. The Award "Business Women in the Community" was won this year by Shelley Clay of Entreprises Papillon, who arrived in Haiti in 2007 to adopt a child, and finally has moved to Haiti with her husband and family.
