Haiti - Culture : Successful Christmas show at the Champs de Mars

Gather more than 70 actors in a great street show of 3 hours at the Champ de Mars, the 22, 23 and 24 December [including 4 theatrical animations combining acrobatics, juggling, mime and songs], was a big challenge, meet by Florence Jean Louis Dupuy and Cynthia Jean Louis, who signed a scene, successfully combining traditional and contemporary, with the assistance of the National Theatre, the ENARTS, the "Atelier théâtre éclosion" of the company "Cirque créole". This show of the holiday season is an initiative of Jean Mario Dupuy, the Minister of Culture with the support of President Martelly and his wife Sophia. The decorations were designed by Joelle Boncy, costumes by Maelle David and makeup done by Maikadou.

If this is true that to the launch of the show, Saturday, December 22, there was a little apprehensive, it is also true that after the show last Monday, the satisfaction was general. In the astonished eyes of the children present during these three days on the place Occide Jeanty, one could read astonishment and happiness.

The first animation showed, with mimes and repetitive jerks the birth of Jesus, the Magi came to offer gifts and joy of the people of Jerusalem welcoming with open arms the divine child. Then, in a lively music of Christmas, 10 jugglers scattered in the crowd, enlivened the evening with their flaming torches. Perched on their wooden legs, two Santas were distributing gifts to the children present. Then it was the turn of the 30 singers of the choir of the ENARTS to become a group of angels descended from heaven to sing in choir Christmas music starting with "se mwen ab de nwèl" of Lionel Benjamin to end with "minuit chrétiens".

The Minister of Culture, thanked the directors and actors, congratulated the public for its discipline and appreciation of aesthetics generated in the show. "I knew I could trust you and you did not disappoint me [...] You've seen tonight another image of Haiti, that we have to sell outside, which goes directly into the vision of the President of the Republic and in the mission of the ministry I head."
