Haiti - Culture : Preparations for the Carnival of Jacmel 2013
The preparations are progressing for the conduct of the Carnival 2013 of Jacmel. All the actors involved in the organization of this event are mobilizing. Artisan workshops are at work for several days from morning until evening to make new pieces with paper mache. On the other hand, walking band and musical groups continue their lastpractice sessions before recording their carnival meringue in the studio.

The new Carnival Organizing Committee 2013 is preparing to officially launch the Carnival of Jacmel Sunday through the city. The theme is "Jacmelitude", a concept that defines Jacmel through its history, its culture, its traditions, its gastronomy, its creativity, its crafts, hospitality and pride of its residents.

Wednesday, during its first meeting with the representatives of various media of Jacmel, the Committee requested the support of the media for a better implementation of in this cultural event in the awareness of the population. Bosses and representatives of various media, welcomed this approach and took the opportunity to provide advice that could allow revelers to have fun in a healthy atmosphere.

For his part, Jean Michel Sabbat, President of the Carnival Committee 2013, announced the creation of novelty in the realization of the carnival of this year among other things, he indicated that the route of the carnival will be changed. "Compared to previous years, the parade could be extended over 2.5km f streets of the city from Barranquilla Avenue through the historic center of Jacmel, commonly called the bottom of the city, the place Congo until the official stand," emphasis on the social and economic aspect of progress of the Carnival activities. A structure involving young people from different neighborhood committees of the city will be established in order to involve young people in the cleanliness of their respective area during the carnival period.

Jean Michel Sabbat, indicated that the members of the Committee are currently working on a budget of approximately 45 million gourdes to properly organize the carnival and that this budget will be submitted to the Government.

To ensure a better management of funds by the Committee, Jean Michel Sabbat stated that the registration process of masquerades, walking bands and musical groups is already underway, according to the established criteria. The latter indicated that a contract would be signed between all these groups.

In order to provide a solution to the groups, which once received their envelope of Committee, chose not to invest the streets under pretext that they had technical problems, the Committee leaders announced for this year severe measures. All groups who will have to participate in the festivities will get their money in three installments. The first payment of 60% before the Carnival, 25% for fat days and 5% after the carnival. Stating that if a group does not meet the articles of the agreement, the rest of the money will go to the municipality of Jacmel, to serve in the work of the city.
