As part of the launch of the Cariforum and of Summit of the Community of States of Latin America and the Caribbean (CELAC) and the European Union (EU-CELAC) in Santiago, Chile [January 26-17], the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Pierre Richard Casimir, of Trade, Mr. Wilson Laleau, the Permanent Representative of Haiti to the OAS, Ambassador Duly Brutus, and the Ambassador of Haiti to Santiago, Mr. Harvel Jean-Baptiste, shared his concerns about in relation to its trade policy and the impact of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) on sustainable development.

At the opening of the Summit CELAC-UE, it was question for the Head of State to note the importance of the partnership between the European Union and the Community of States of Latin America and the Caribbean "While seeking to ensure economic and social progress for their respective members, these two groups can broaden their field of action by a cooperation aimed at improve prosperity and democracyover large geographical areas," recalling that the experience gained by both parties and the sharing of principles and values ​​should "promote the establishment of a fruitful dialogue conducive to the adoption of common positions."

The President Martelly took advantage of this Summit to highlight that the needs of Haiti and of the region, are especially important in terms of investment in priority areas, defined by the development strategies in Haiti, capable of contributing to the achievement of its objectives and to the eradication of poverty "My country has strong potential, which just waiting to be valued in the areas of agriculture, agro-industry, construction, tourism and cultural industries. For a new world, a new vision is needed," declared the Head of State, concluding that a consciousness of solidarity between peoples, governments and large set of integration is needed at the moment.
