Haiti - CELAC-EU : Costa Rica and Ireland alongside Haiti

Saturday, on the sidelines of 2nd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American States and Caribbean and the European Union (EU-CELAC) in Santiago (Chile), the President Michel Martelly, held talks with the President of Costa Rica, Ms. Laura Chinchilla [also President "pro tempore" of the System of Integration Center American (SICA)] and the Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, Eamon Gilmore [President "pro tempore" of the European Union].

Several topics were discussed with Ms. Chinchilla including, environmental cooperation between the two countries. The Head of State expressed his interest for the environmental issues in Haiti and proposed a cooperation with Costa Rica, known for its expertise in environmental protection.

For her part, Ms. Chinchilla convinced of the efforts of Haitian Head of State for the dynamic development of cooperation with Haiti, said she was in favor that the two countries closer in this field. She also discussed with the President Martelly [current President "pro tempore" of the CARICOM], how multilateral organizations can work together to better integrate the Centre Region America and the Caribbean.

With Mr. Eamon Gilmore, the Head of State shared his preoccupations for the year 2013 and compiled an inventory of the development process in Haiti through its 5 "E". The President Martelly has also stressed the necessity to strengthen development projects in Haiti, in the fields of environment, job creation, agricultural rehabilitation and protection of investments.
