Haiti - Politic : Haiti will propose French as an official language of the CARICOM
Pierre Richard Casimir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, which welcomed Sunday at the international airport of Port-au-Prince the first delegations of Member States of the CARICOM, intends to request, at this meeting, the recognition of French as an official language of CARICOM.
The demographic weight of Haiti with 10.5 million out of a total of 18 million members of the region (all English speaking) justifies this request. Recall that the President Martelly had already made a similar request during his first appearance at the 32nd Summit of Heads of State of CARICOM in July 2011, and again during the 33rd Summit of CARICOM in St. Lucia in July 2012.
The free movement of goods, of services, capital and labor will also be discussed at this meeting.
