Haiti - Politic : Bilateral Cooperation between Antigua and Barbuda and Haiti

Antigua and Barbuda and the Republic of Haiti have agreed to pursue several initiatives under the bilateral cooperation agreement signed on 18 December 2012. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the 24th Intersessional Meeting of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the CARICOM held in Haiti.

"Since the last meeting at the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute on 21st January 2013, there has been agreement on several initiatives which we are confident will solidify our partnership and strengthen our cultural ties. I am pleased that Haiti is equally enthusiastic about the operationalizing of the Agreement and the clear opportunities that will accrue from their early harvest," stated the Prime Minister Antiguayen, Baldwin Spencer.

During bilateral talks between the President Martelly and Prime Minister Spencer, was also present Josette Darguste, the Minister of Culture, Magalie Racine, the Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action, Marina Gourgue, Secretary of State for vocational Training, Barbara Stephenson, the Project Manager of ARCADES (EU-Funded Culture Programme) and Ambassador Dr. Clarence Henry.

Among the activities to be undertaken, there is a program of sports cooperation and the creation of a French Cultural Festival in Antigua and Barbuda, which will showcase excellence in dance, art and craft, and music .

Another planned activity "English 1 Step Programme", with a duration of 12 weeks, will focus on the teaching of English to Haitians, while the teaching of French in Antigua and Barbuda, will be undertaken in a second phase.
