Haiti - Politic : The Prime Minister Lamothe met Nguyen Bac Son
Monday, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe met Mr. Nguyen Bac Son, Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communication, at the end of this meeting, Laurent Lamothe declared "this visit follows the visit we made in Vietnam and is in preparation of the visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister, Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, that we invited and which agreed to visit the country for the first time in Vietnam's history with Haiti.

This meeting allowed the Minister Nguyen Bac Son to share with us about the progress in our relationship. We exchanged among others, on the relationship in agriculture between the two countries [...] We also reviewed the technological advances that Haiti wants. The Minister made an inventory of progress on Internet in Vietnam, where more than 80% of the population has access to this service. He also explained how Vietnam can help Haiti in terms of technology, in this sense, they invite 3 Haitian technicians to go to Vietnam to take training.

Through Viettel Group, they made an announcement of several donations and assistance, that they will do within the framework of the cooperation with Haiti. There are 5.000 school kits and 400 tons of rice, 3 experts in agriculture to help the country develop its agricultural capacity, and especially for agricultural recovery. They also donated, a new computer lab for the Lycée of Petion-ville. [value $30,000].

They also talked about the quality of telephone service, which is important for the population. We know that there are many problems with the cell, for the quality of service. The Deputy Director of Viettel Group, which is the owner of 60% of the Natcom gave us the guarantee, that will bring independent companies to assess the network quality for its reliability. Remember that they have already installed Internet in 46 school in the country and a high resolution videoconferencing system in ministries and 10 delegation, free of charge. They will donate 20,000 phones for the terriorial communities, Following the request that I made to them, Natcom will offer a mobile banking service [...]

The Government owns 40% of the Natcom, so we are interested to know how Natcom advance, ow many subscribers they have and how we will continue with the new technologies. Because we know that there are now 3G, 4G etc... that are coming, so we wanted to know their perspectives. The Director General told us that in 2014, end 2014, they will start on a limited basis to deploy 4G technology, which provides a faster internet with a higher throughput.

[...] We are very pleased with this visit, which allowed us to strengthen South-South relations [...] it was also an opportunity for us to reaffirm our commitment to work with Vietnam. You know that we have signed an agreement in the field of agriculture with them, they have already sent their technicians, we also had a plan as part of the fight against high living cost [...] what the Haitian government has done is a strategic agreement with the Vietnamese Government, so that they helps us to find the technology to develop initially, the rice sector, as they do in Vietnam, and in a second time, so that we are able to establish a strategic stock of 15,000 tons of rice, with Vietnam . This rice is en route and will be here between 15 and 20 March [...]"
