The level of the General Index of Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004), increased in February compared with the previous month, from 204.7 to 205.6, a monthly increase of 0.4% for a 7.4% yoy.

This monthly increase is the result of the upward trend in consumption functions "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+0.8%), "Clothing, Shoes and Fabrics" (+ 0.3%), "Planning, Equipment and Housing Maintenance" (+0.3%) and "Other Goods and Services" (+0.5%).

The increase in the index "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" is mainly due to the rising price of corn grain (+1.2%), wheat flour (+1.0%), the pork (+ 1.2%), goat meat (+1.1%), chicken (+0.4%), avocado (+1.3%), banana (+1.7%), the pumpkin (+1.8%) and lemon (+12.6%).

However, it should be noted the stagnating prices of rice, bread and raw sugar as well as the decline among other, of tomato prices (-2.9%), yam (-0.9%), the hareng saur (-1.3%) and wheat flour (-0.1%).

Inflationary pressures of the function "Clothing, Shoes and Fabrics" is mainly due to the increase in tissue (+0.5%), the shirt (+0.5%) and dress (+0.9%).

The rising price of the mattress (+1.2%), bed linen (+1.4%) and disinfectant (+1.3%) are at the basis of the increase in the index "Clothing, Shoes and Fabrics."

The increase in the index "Other Goods and Services" is primarily attributable to the soap (+0.7%), dry toilet (+2.0%), the body cream (+1.2%) and shows (+0.8%).

Metropolitan Area (Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Pétion-Ville, carrefour and Croix-des-Bouquets) +0,5%

Remains West (Department of South-East and West, Excluding Metropolitan Area) +0,4%

North : (Department of North-East and North-West) +0,3%

South : (Department of the South, Nippes and the Grande'Anse) +1,1%

Transversale : (Department of Centre and Artibonite) +0,7%
