Haiti - Politic : Signature today, of the «Declaration of Petion-ville» in the 5th Summit of the ACS
The Heads of State and Government, came to participate this Friday at the plenary session of the 5th Summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), to sign the final declaration named "Declaration of Petion-Ville", began to arrive in the country since Thursday.

The summit, which began on Tuesday with the first technical meeting entered in its final phase on Thursday with the conclusion of the meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, and will culminate on Friday with the plenary session of the Heads of State and Government.

Among the Presidents whose presence is confirmed we can note among others : Danilo Medina, President of the Dominican Republic, Porfirio Lobo Sosa, President of Honduras, Enrique Peña Nieto, President of Mexico, Juan Manuel Santos, President of Colombia, Otto Pérez Molina, President of Guatemala, Sebastián Piñera Echenique, President of Chile (as an observer] and Dean Barrow, Head of Government of Belize.

Thursday evening, there were rumors about the possible presence [but unlikely unless surprise...] of Raul Castro [successor to Fidel Castro], currently represented at the Summit by the Cuban Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, as well as the presence of the new President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, whose the Vice-President for Political Affairs and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, Elías Jaua Milano already present at the Summit held talks with the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe on major projects and programs financed by the Petrocaribe funds.

At the last minute, we learn that Ricardo Martinelli, President of Panama will be represented by Fernando Nunez Fabrega, his Foreign Minister, also the Presidents of Costa Rica, St. Lucia and Nicaragua will be absent of problem of agenda and will be represented by another member of their Government.

According to AFP, the 25 members of the AEC countries will, in their final declaration call the United States to end the embargo against Cuba. Statement that stipulates to this end "We reiterate our call on the Government of the United States of America to terminate the application of the Helms-Burton Act, in accordance with the 20 relevant resolutions adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations, and to end he economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba."

For the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, this 5th summit is a success in the eyes of the world, demonstrating the ability to organize Haiti uneventful international major events. During the summit, ACS countries agreed among other things, of the creation of an economic space in the Caribbean region and increase trade and investment. In addition, the ACS members have unanimously condemned all acts of terrorism wherever they occur and whatever their authors and are committed to strengthen cooperation among States to Prevent, Suppress and effectively remove these threats.
