Nearly 46 police officers, including 16 newcomers and 2 women of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) have recently completed 3 weeks of theoretical and practical training at the military camp of the regional office of the Minustah, in Jacmel (Southeast). This session was the largest ever held in training area given the time and human resources available.

During these 3 weeks, the PNH officers worked n theory and practice on scenarios of throwing of grenades, crossing barricades and interpellation. They are also trained within their Departmental Unit of Maintenance of Order (UDMO) against a sniper, have evacuated the premises occupied and reproduced of situations of commandment.

"The idea is to allow the Haitian police force to develop operational capacities through advanced training for instructors who in turn will transmit what they have learned to their peers," explained the Colonel Mills Sylvestre, Chief of Training UNPOL at the Police Academy of Port-au-Prince.

According to one teacher, the French police officer Bécard Pascal, a member of the UNPOL, "Restitution has been effective and I wish that the unit is operational very soon, as it will be equipped with proper equipment and vehicles." A training all the more important that these agents UDMO of Southeast will soon be called to replace the peacekeepers of the Minustah, as part of the gradual reduction of troops in the town of Anse-a-Pitre, border zone with the Dominican Republic.
