Haiti - Politic : Official visit of Laurent Lamothe in Cuba

Wednesday, Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, also Minister of Planning and External Cooperation begins an official visit to Havana (Cuba), to strengthen relations between the two country, he will meet on this occasion, the First Vice-President Cuban Miguel Díaz-Canel. On the agenda of the Prime Minister Lamothe, also included a ceremony honoring the Cuban heroes of the Fatherland, José Martí, on the Plaza de la Revolución (Revolution Square) (Havana).

Recall that since the beginning of the Cuban medical cooperation with Haiti in 1998, 11,327 Cuban collaborators have offered their services and 686 are currently stationed in Haiti. Cuba and the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America and of the Treaty of Commerce for the Peoples, have made contributions for the reconstruction of the health system to make it accessible to the Haitian people.

Cuba and Haiti are part of the expanded troika of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Cuba as President pro tempore of that body and Haiti as President pro tempore of the Caribbean Community (Caricom). Recall that diplomatic relations between the two countries, initiated February 3, 1904, were suspended September 28, 1959 to resume February 6, 1996. Throughout this period, Haiti has maintained a historical position, condemning ever, the U.S. blockade on Cuba.
