Haiti - Justice : Lawyers celebrate their patron Saint
On Monday, the court of the Prosecutor of Port-au-Prince, arranged for the occasion into a chapel for a sung Mass, celebrated by Bishop Pierre Andre Dumas, has hosted various personalities from the legal, political and diplomatic world on the occasion of the feast of St. Yves, the patron saint of lawyers, an opportunity for the men and women of law, to reflect on the life of their patron saint, devoted to the service of the poor.

Lawyers and legal professionals are invited to celebrate their patron saint for a week until May 25. According to the organizing committee in the program of activities of the week, are planned among others of conferences-debates (with amon others the les speakers : Me Monferrier Dorval, Me Henry Marges Dorléans and the economist Eddy Labossière], a moot court competition, mock trial, and the swearing in of the second class of students-lawyers, mock trials and the swearing in of the second class of students-lawyers.

In his homily, Bishop Pierre Andre Dumas called for a better understanding of the legal profession and said that the law should "be sure and not uncertain," adding that withoutguarantee of legal security, the rule of law could not exist in Haiti explaining that "[...] The lawyer, the jurist should be the one that not only makes use of reason but also of his heart. It should bind the essential dimensions of human life to achieve the application of emotional intelligence in the practice of law."

Me Boniface Alexandre, former President of the Court of Cassation of the Republic, present at the ceremony, urged the Haitian authorities to keep their promises so that justice becomes strong.

Me Carlos Hercules, President of the Federation of Law Societies of Haiti, reminded the authorities that the rule of law is not limited to "name missing judges at the Court of Cassation, or the inauguration of the Superior Council of the Judiciary," and also recalled "to the investigators as financial, administrative and judicial their duty to instruct the denunciations referred to them against someone of any title whatsoever, as well as its belonging [...]" saying "We can by the quality, integrity and independence contribute to an effectively independent judiciary guarantor of rights and freedoms. We can help build self-sufficiency and self-determination of our beloved Haiti."

Born in 1250 into a noble family in Minihy-Tréguier (Brittany, France) Yves Hélouri de Kermanten orYves de Tréguier or simply Yves Saint in the Catholic tradition, was a priest who dedicated his life to justice and the poor [died in 1303]. The Catholic Church has recognized him as Saint and the feast every May 19. For many, the path of Yves Saint sobering.
