Haiti - Social : Sophia Martelly appealed to family responsibility
Monday, as part of the celebration of the "Day of the Child" on June 9, the First Lady of the Republic, Sophia Martelly, launched at the Karibe Hotel the Children's Week [June 3 to 9] which will be held this year on the theme "Ann pote kole pou yon bon anviwònman ak ti moun yo."

In the presence, among others, of Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras, President of the National Assembly, of Charles Jean-Jacques, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Magalie Racine, Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action, Gerald Oriol, Jr., Secretary of State for Disabled People, the Ambassador of the United States, Pamela White, and representatives of national and international organizations, Sophia Martelly spoke on the responsibility of adults in the response to concerns from children, and appeals to the responsibility and family protection, love and attention of parents towards their children.

"Our responsibility is to ensure that each new member of the large Haitian family is welcomed with dignity, in a protective environment nd concerned about his overall well-being," affirmed the First Lady, for which, the supervision of both parents is required for the full emotional, physical and spiritual development of the child. She joins her husband, the President Martelly, to encourage and promote the efforts aimed at bring Haitian children safe from violence and illegal activities.

For her part, Ms. Arielle Villedrouin, the Director of Social Welfare and Research (IBESR), stressed the importance of family unity and its revival in the struggle for the development of the child. Ms. Villedrouin reiterated the commitment of Social welfare, to educate and raise awareness among institutions, the population, parents and schools, on the need to combat all forms of abuse, maltreatment and the worst forms of child labor.
