Haiti - Environment : A Haitian company wins international environmental award 21/06/2013 12:01:45 This award was presented by S. Vijay Iyer, Director of Sustainable Energy at the World Bank during a ceremony at the prestigious "Royal Geographical Society" in London. Duquesne Fednard, CEO of D&E Green Enterprises, declared "We are delighted to win Ashden Awards. D&E is committed to providing cost-effective solutions using clean energy to the communities whose resources are limited, in order to break the cycle of energy poverty and stimulate economic growth. This award is a great opportunity for learning and sharing, which allows us to share our experience with others stakeholders while raising awareness the international community in our work." S. Vijay Iyer, noted that "Throughout the world, small island developing States face enormous challenges, including limited resources, isolation and vulnerability to natural disasters and external shocks. Learn more about "D&E Green Enterprises" : The entrepreneur Duquesne Fednard created D&E Green Enterprises in 2009 to find a solution to social and environmental problems in Haiti. The company produces effective wood charcoal cookstoves that reduce the amount of fuel needed for the preparation of food. They thus reduce home energy consumption and relieve the area of wood supply, until then overfished and subject to human looting, that have nearly remove the country's forests. Since 2010, the company sold about 33,000 low energy charcoal cookstoves.
