Haiti - Social : The Government Commissioner wants to restore morality in Haiti...

While continuing his relentless fight against insecurity, Me Lucmane Delille, the Government Commissioner has indicated earlier this week that he now intended tackle with the restoration of decency and morality among young people in Haiti.

The outfits considered immoral among others : wearing pants below the buttocks and even the "tennis torn and the rotten socks" will not escape our control, the Commissioner said. For girls, the outfits too light... may be subject to legal action for sexual molestation (indecent). "Boys and girls are likely to be apprehended if their behavior is deemed inappropriate or indecent," warned th eCommissioner added that noise such as those generated by Disco Night Clubs, DJ, neighbors, churches, transit drivers etc... are also on his agenda. He justified his action by the fact that these behaviors cause problems for the society and formerly Haiti was not like that... Affirming that such behavior will not be tolerated within its jurisdiction...

Antonal Mortimer, the Executive Secretary of the Haitian Platform of Human Rights Organizations (POHDH), objected to any violation of human rights, any discrimination and all prejudice against a certain social class. "Nowhere in Haitian law it is said a manner to dress [...] the fact, of wearing his pants below his buttocks can not be assimilated to an offense [...] that a man has long hair, earrings or tennis torn, it does not violate any law," argues Antonal Mortimer, who believes that such behavior is the result of the marginalization of young people in our society.

According to the Executive Secretary of POHDH the restoration of good morals should not go through repression, but through the promotion of good behavior. For him, the State must use the media to promote positive values and behaviors that we wish to find in the Haitian youth, concluding that "awareness must prevail over repression."
