Haiti - Weather : Chantal turned into Tropical Wave
The NHC of Miami has announced that the Tropical Depression Chantal, is now a remnants, which it dissipates. The mass, which is now a tropical wave is located at 5:00 pm near latitude 16.5N and longitude 73.7W or 207km south-east of Les Cayes, 201km south-west of Jacmel and 240km south-west of Port-au-Prince, it moves at 37km/h West, with maximum sustained winds of 75km/h, with higher gusts.

Although Chantal has dissipated, it remains that the entire island of Hispaniola is covered with cloud and currently receives rain with winds in more or less important quantities depending on location. The remains of Chantal should disperse on Jamaica and eastern Cuba tonight and Thursday... in the northwestern Bahamas on or near the peninsula of Florida by Friday.

NOAA informs that storm surge... localized coastal flooding are possible in areas of onshore flow along portions of the south coast of hispaniola ; that the remnants of chantal are expected to produce total rain accumulations of 3 to 6 inches over Hispaniola...jamaica... central and eastern cuba... and the southeastern bahamas. Isolated maximum amounts of 6 inches are possible across southern portions of Hispaniola.

Haiti remains in the alert phase at Vigilance Rouge. The Centre National de Météorologie (CNM) (national meteorological centre) in cooperation with the SPGRD and the DPC asks that people in at-risk areas remain vigilant and carefully follow the safety instructions below in case of flooding, rockfalls, landslides and severe thunderstorms.

- Stay informed of weather conditions if you and your activities are in areas prone to flooding or landslides (coastal areas, ravines, rivers, mountain sides, etc.).

- Stow all important items in a safe place.

- Stockpile food.

- Be very careful near rivers in heavy rain and do not cross them under any circumstances.

- Do not take shelter near windows or under trees in thunderstorms and high winds.

Official examinations postponed
The MENFP postponed to next week the official exams (baccalaureate Part 2), scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday. These examinations will be held from Monday 15, Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 July. "[...] We ask the students to keep in a safe location their examination card to avoid problems in the recovery of these exams," declared Vanneur Pierre the Minister of National Education. More than 60,800 students are involved in these examinations.
